Counsellors are people trained and skilled in helping others work through their difficulty. Specialist counselling service provides emotional and psychological support to patients with potentially life limiting illness and their families. Patients and families who grapple with life-limiting illness will experience a lot of grief, uncertainty and will battle with a series of different thoughts and emotions as they come to terms with reality. In such cases an intervention with a counsellor would help lessen the stress in the family. For example the counsellor might approach the patient with questions like ‘What is worrying/bothering you the most?’ which may reveal their physical symptoms, emotional distress, concerns about family, existential concerns etc. This allows the counsellor to seek whatever expert help is most pertinent to the patient’s current problems. Palliative Care Counselling services are available on OPD basis as well as home care.
