In palliative care the focus on nutrition is to reduce worrying and improve Quality of Life (QoL). Good nutritional care is a fundamental component of palliative care. The aims of nutritional care is to minimize food-related discomfort and maximize food enjoyment. As a part of the multidisciplinary treating team, the dietician assesses the patient’s nutritional needs and issues, identifies ways and suggests appropriate measures. Common problems such as nausea and vomiting are controlled with medications in some cases, while for others, a change of diet is enough. Timely dietary advise is needed to avoid malnutrition especially in cases of acute diabetics & advanced cancer patients. Dietician services are available for home care patients. OPD basis consultation is also available.
